Scuola di Legalità: a civic training process taking place in Avellino

In Avellino the third edition of the “Scuola di Legalità”, titled “organizing hope and indignation”, is currently underway. The School is a project developed by the association Libera:Associazioni, nomi e numeri contro le mafie together with the Chamber of Commerce of Avellino with the aim of educating and creating awareness on the topics of justice, legality and equitable development, topics that hold a particular relevance in this area given the strong presence of organized criminality in the territory.

This “civic training” process, addressed in particular to young students in their first years of high school hopes to stimulate critical and in-depth thinking on the “mafia” phenomenon and to inspire transformation processes that could benefit both the territory and the life of its citizens.

The activities of this third edition of the School are organized in a cycle of ten classes consisting both in frontal lectures with guests presenting a wide range of life and professional experiences and in practical “itinerant laboratories where the students will be in the front line. All the lessons will be built around the three pillars of common goods, social cooperation and civil economy, and often reference will be made to the important role of individual and collective memory of the territory and of its history. The School doesn’t expect to provide the students with an exhaustive knowledge on this highly complex topic, but it concentrates on giving them some instruments to use in their everyday life and environment.

LabGov has the opportunity to take part in this formative process with a lecture delivered by Professor Christian Iaione (LabGov’s co-founder) on Thursday the 24th of November. The lecture, which goes under the title “Horror Vacui: are you afraid of emptiness?”, will propose a reflection on the possibility to discover and recover the heritage and richness hidden within the common goods and common spaces.
